Corner of Carroll and Columbia Street in Brooklyn
The Amazing Garden
Located in the Columbia Street Waterfront District in Brooklyn, the Amazing Garden is a living project of our community. More than 30 years ago, a group of motivated neighbors banded together to remake a broken down concrete parking lot into the urban oasis that we enjoy today. With a combination of passion, vision and great effort they worked together to reclaim a piece of their neighborhood to be shared by all. Whether taking up the concrete, erecting fencing, or planting trees and shrubs, they worked tirelessly to provide a place of beauty and calm for their friends, neighbors, and passersby. Many of the founding members are still active participants in the garden today.

Capturing Three Decades of Garden's Legacy
Our Film Project
This year marks our 30th anniversary of the garden.
In the early 1990s, as the community garden at the corner of Columbia and Carroll Streets began to flourish into a vibrant green space, the Carroll-Columbia West block association faced the task of choosing a suitable name. The garden occupies a lot that had remained vacant since 1980 and had previously served as an unofficial garbage dump and an illegal parking area. In 1994, passionate neighbors secured the lot through Local Community Board 6, transforming it into a community-run garden under the guidance of GreenThumb.
